The historic town of Dénia is the next stop along the Costa Blanca coast moving north from Jávea.  The port area is where you can catch a ferry to Ibiza, Majorca, Menorca or Canary Islands and features a large marina, many shops and beach side restaurants.  Dénia is larger than Jávea with a full time population of around 42,000 which increases substantially in the summer months.

The town has many facilities including a number of hospitals, a railway terminus for the Alicante Tramway and a large sports complex with indoor swimming pool. There is also a fish market built in the 20th century which still auctions the catch brought in by the local fishing fleet daily and is open to the public.

The main feature of Denia is the castle built in the 11th and 12th century which stands on a rocky outcrop above the city. There is a pedestrian tunnel which runs under the castle which many use as a short cut to gain access to the shopping precinct next to the Town Hall.  It was used as an emergency shelter during the civil war and is popular with buskers who play musical instruments that echo in the eerie cave like chambers of the passage way.

The hub of Dénia is the Avenida Marques de Campo which is shaded on both sides by tall ancient plane trees. This area is home to the many cafés and tappas bars and is popular with tourists and locals alike.Of course the main attractions of Dénia include the long flat sandy beaches of Els Poblets that stretch 20 kilometres up the coast towards the town of Oliva.  This beach is ideal for windsurfers and the shallow inclination makes it an especially safe place for swimmers young and old.Dénia has a truly multicultural population and is a popular location for home buyers who want to be close to the beach and at the same time enjoy the activity of a bustling yet enchanting town.
